Pilling, those tiny fuzzy balls that can appear on the surface of high-performance fabrics, is a common occurrence with soft, brushed materials. While it can be frustrating, pilling is not a fabric defect and does not mean your leggings are wearing out.
What causes pilling?
Pilling is caused by friction. When the fabric rubs against itself or another rough surface (such as a Velcro gym belt, a rough bench, or even a coarse towel in the wash), the tiny fibers on the surface can tangle together.
Because we use high-quality, soft-touch materials to ensure maximum comfort, the fabric can sometimes be susceptible to snagging or rubbing if it comes into contact with tough or abrasive surfaces.
How to prevent pilling:
To keep your products looking brand new for as long as possible, we recommend these care steps:
- Wash inside out: This protects the outer, visible side of the fabric from friction during the wash cycle.
- Avoid rough surfaces: Be mindful of abrasive gym equipment, seated rows, or backpacks that might rub consistently against the fabric.
- Skip the heat: Always wash in cold water and hang dry. High heat from a dryer can damage the fibers and make them more prone to tangling.
- Wash with like-colors: Avoid washing your performance gear with heavy items like denim or towels, which can act like sandpaper against softer fabrics.
How to fix it:
If pilling has already occurred, do not worry! It can be easily removed without damaging the leggings. We recommend using a fabric shaver (also known as a depiller). A quick pass with a fabric shaver will safely trim away the fuzz and restore the garment to its original smooth look.
Warranty & Support
Please note that because pilling is a result of external friction and normal wear and tear rather than a manufacturing error, it is not covered under our limited warranty. Therefore, we are unable to provide replacements or compensation for items experiencing pilling or holes developed through use.
