If you’ve received a refund notification and noticed that the last four digits of the card number don't match your physical credit or debit card, please don't worry! This is a standard security feature of Apple Pay.
How Apple Pay Protects You
When you use Apple Pay, your actual card number is never shared with us. Instead, Apple assigns a unique Device Account Number (also known as a virtual card number) to complete the transaction.
The Refund: When we process a refund, it is sent back to that virtual account number.
The Result: Your bank automatically links that virtual number back to your original account. Even if the digits on the receipt look different, the funds will still appear in your Apple Pay account/bank statement as usual.
Important Note on Refunds
For security and privacy reasons, our system can only process a refund back to the original payment method used at checkout. We do not have the ability to redirect these funds to a different card or bank account.
Still have questions?
If you don't see the funds in your account after 3–5 business days, we recommend contacting your bank or Apple Support and providing them with the refund details. They will be able to track the transaction using your Device Account Number.
